Learning to play guitar should be as inspiring as the instrument in your hands. Whether you’re picking up a guitar for the first time or looking to refine your technique, the experienced, passionate instructors at Muddy River Guitars are more than just teachers — they’re mentors who would love to help you grow, and fellow musicians who gig regularly all over the Kansas City area — from Lenexa to Liberty, Blue Valley to Blue Springs.
Each one brings their own unique style, background, and approach. So whatever type of music you're into, we've got you covered. Scroll down to meet the crew, then give us a call or stop by the store to get started!
Roger Pitts
Roger is an accomplished musician with degrees in music, multiple awards, and endorsements from five guitar companies — plus a keyboard brand for good measure. He tours and performs regularly, and you can check out his credentials, performances, and more at rogerpittsmusic.com. But what really sets Roger apart is how he teaches. Whether you’re learning guitar or keyboard, he makes music theory feel fun, clear, and surprisingly intuitive. From breaking down how chords and scales work together to refining advanced techniques, Roger has a knack for meeting students where they are — and helping them grow. He works with advanced musicians, beginners (who haven’t developed bad habits yet — ha!), and everyone in between. Many of his students have gone on to pursue music professionally. While he teaches online to students across the country, the only place you’ll find Roger teaching in person is right here at Muddy River Guitars. Guitars.
Vince Kirk
Vince has been playing guitar since age 9 and began teaching at just 17. After years of rock 'n roll jams, classical training, and live performance, he joined the band Donnie and the Rock. They signed a record deal with CBS/Epic Records and opened for major acts like The Kinks, Night Ranger, The Romantics, Survivor, Grand Funk Railroad, and Head East. Today, Vince still finds time to play on stage and in the studio, while teaching at Muddy River Guitars. His lessons are customized to your level and goals — whether you're just starting out or a seasoned player looking to sharpen your skills. He offers guitar instruction in a wide range of styles, including blues, pop, rock, metal, country, classical, folk, and more. Vince also teaches ukulele, mandolin, ear training, improvisation, music theory, and sight reading. Vince’s students have gone on to successful music careers — including Katy Guillen. If you're ready to take your playing to the next level, Vince is ready to help you get there. you get there
