Our Story
Muddy River Guitars was founded in 2015 by Scott Weinmann. Having worked for both Private Reserve Guitars and Gibson Guitars, Scott brings over 20 years of experience in the guitar business on both the retail side and the manufacturing side.
Initially Muddy River was an online only store. But, after a couple years there was enough local interest to open a brick and mortar location. So, Scott opened a storefront in Atchison, KS on September 1st of 2017.
Then, in May of 2021, another opportunity came along and Scott opened a new Kansas City metro location at 9532 Marshall Dr in Lenexa, KS. This larger location allowed Muddy River to bring on more brands, and carry more boutique guitars.
We take tremendous pride in finding brands from around the world who excel at making great guitars. They aren’t always household names. But they are well built, great sounding guitars with fantastic companies to back them up. That allows us to serve you with truly unique options for guitars that are built to last and sound absolutely amazing.

To create this unique Muddy River experience, Scott has surrounded himself with other experienced professionals. When you visit the store or give us a call, you might talk with Scott, Dan, Steve, or Brian... each with more than 20 years of experience. Our teachers, Roger, Vince, and Mike, are all staples on the Kansas City music scene, each with more than 20 years experience as both instructors and professional gigging musicians. Our repair tech, Cliff, also has more than 20 years of experience making guitars sound and feel fantastic.
